As part of the research project I took over during my master studies at Emily Carr University, I was interested in the long term impact of everyday beautification gestures on the psyche. To better understand this subject, I produced a series of 22:30 minutes videos (the average amount of time North American women spend everyday on hair and makeup). Each video depicts a performance in which I pushed a chosen beautification gesture to its limits, or to the limits of what my body could endure. The goal was to highlight how a seemingly innocuous gesture can come to have major impacts when repeated to the extreme. The videos were projected as diptychs on two opposing walls and were taking the entire width of the wall. They sometimes included a sound element.
